Participation is voluntary for Domestics up to and including age 64 years
A Domestic is defined to include any domestic worker or independent contractor who performs domestic work in a private dwelling. The definition
also includes:
A person doing gardening in a private home
Persons who look after children, the aged, the sick, the frail or the disabled in a private household
A person employed to drive the car taking the children of the household to school
An Au Pair employed by means of an employment contract
The Definition does not include:
A farm worker who performs domestic work in a home on a farm.
According to the above definitions each employer for whom the domestic worker works more than 24 hours a month, must register the domestic
worker and make a UIF contribution
The Domestic must be actively employed for cover to commence and for the benefit to be paid out
The Domestic Cover does not make provision for Extended Family members
If the Domestic has a common law spouse he must be declared at the start of the policy.
Children are limited to 4 and must be biological children and/or legally adopted children only
WAITING PERIODS : The following waiting periods apply:
Natural Causes : 6 Calendar months
Unnatural Causes : Cover commences on the 1st of the month following receipt of the 1st premium
Suicide : a 24 calendar month waiting period applies
Reinstatement of a lapsed policy : a 6 calendar month waiting period applies
Cover stops on the earliest of:
Domestic turning 65 or going on Pension
Death of the Domestic
Non-payment of premiums
Termination of the Domestic’s employment
Cancellation of the scheme / policy by the employer
There is an automatic escalation of the premium (10%) and benefit (10%) annually on the anniversary date of the scheme
30 –DAY POLICY REVIEW PERIOD:
Where no claim has been instituted in terms of this Plan or where no right has accrued to you to institute a claim or receive any benefit in
terms of the Plan, you may, within 30 (thirty) days of receipt of the policy documentation, cancel the policy by contacting AU in writing and
informing them of the cancellation;
All premiums paid during this 30-day review period shall be refunded by AU, subject to the deduction of the cost of any cover actually enjoyed;
- If you cancel the Plan after the 30-day cooling-off period, you will not get anything back as funeral insurance policies do not acquire any
surrender or paid-up value.
PREMIUM PAYMENT:
Premiums are paid monthly in advance on or before the 7th of each month via employer debit order or EFT only
GRACE PERIOD:
The premium grace period does not apply to the payment of the first premium on inception of the Plan; After the first premium is paid, a grace
period of 1 (one) month will be allowed for the payment of future premiums;
The Plan will remain in force for the grace period of one month. If premiums are not paid by the end of the grace period, the Plan will lapse.
PREMIUM REVIEW:
AU reserves the right to do a premium review at any stage. Any adjustment in the premium will be communicated in writing with a 30 day notice
period.
CANCELLATION:
Upon written cancellation of the scheme from either party, all AU’s liabilities towards the Domestic will cease as from the day of the last
premium received or the date of dissolution, whichever is the later.
SURRENDER VALUES:
There are no surrender values under this Plan. Benefits under this Plan may not be ceded or pledged in any way. No loans are available under
this Plan.
The following documentation will be required in order to process a claim:
AU claim notification form;
Original or certified copy of the death certificate;
A certified copy of the deceased’s identity document;
A certified copy of the identity document of the person claiming the benefit;
The Domestic’s last payslip / proof of salary (month prior to date of death) ;
A fully completed BI1663 form;
Proof that the Domestic was indeed employed by the employer on the date of death – e.g. an appointment letter | employment contract |
Payslip. If this proof cannot be provided AU has the right to repudiate the claim
AMOUNT OF BENEFIT:
The benefit payable upon the death of a Domestic is limited to R10,000
EXCLUSIONS:
No claim will be admitted in terms of this Scheme if the event giving rise to the claim is caused directly or indirectly by or is in any way
attributable to any of the following: -
The willing participation by the Domestic in any of the following:
any act of war (whether war is declared or not);
military action | riot | insurrection | civil commotion | martial law | terrorism;
Any act or deed by the Domestic deliberately committed in violation of criminal law.
FRAUD:
Any Policy accepted under this Scheme shall be void as from the Entry Date if:
Any claim under this Scheme is in any respect fraudulent; or
Any fraudulent means or devices are used or employed by the Principal Member or anyone acting on Domestic’s behalf, to obtain any benefit
under this Scheme; or
Any event is occasioned by the wilful act of the Domestic, or with the Domestic’s connivance’ or should
AU have been misled by the employer of the Domestic in any way whatsoever?
NOTIFICATION
It is the duty of the employer of the domestic to notify the domestic that a funeral policy has been taken out for her/him
LAW AND CURRENCY:
This Scheme and any Policy issued shall be subject to the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Premiums and benefits payable under this Plan
shall be paid in the Republic of South Africa and in South African Rands only.
